TRESTLEBOARD FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST 2008

Greetings from the Master - Gilbert Bailey

Well the summer is almost over, we accomplished quite a bit and have a lot to look forward to this fall.  We wrapped up our Grand Lodge code amendment discussions during August.  I want to thank everyone for the candid conversations regarding the proposed changes.  We had a successful day during the Certified Lecturers exam this past week.  We added two new Certified Lecturers and had one renew.  We owe a great thanks to W.B. Ken Mullis for all the hard work he puts in to prepare our brothers for these exams.
We had a great planning meeting to line up our fall dates.  September will bring our ladies night.  You and your lady will not want to miss Ken Mullis' world famous fish fry.  We will also have musical entertainment that evening.  We will have a movie night this month.  Members, relatives and people interested in Masonry are welcome.
Our movie night was so successful this past spring that we brought it back by popular demand.
The Masonic jeopardy game we played this summer was also so popular that we are looking into inviting another lodge or two to come over and compete with us in October.  We have also set the date for the Past Master's / Award's night which will be November 15th.  By the time you receive this another bowling night will have spontaneously happened as well.  As you can see there is quite a bit of activity happening at your lodge.   Come on over and have some fun this fall!

Greetings from the Sr. Warden - Mike Davis

I want to personally thank all of you Brothers who participate in and contribute to the growth of our Lodge and the charities we support.  Your unselfish acts of charity give those who are less fortunate, hope and faith in the future.  We have been gathering "School Tools for Oxford" so that our kids at the Masonic Home for Children in Oxford (MHCO) will be adequately prepared with the everyday school supplies required for this coming school year.  We plan to wrap up our collection next week and get it delivered to MHCO, 09/01/2008, but there is still time to add more pens, pencils, paper, etc. to the pile.  We are at the Lodge every Monday night, so bring your stuff by and we will get it to the kids.  Better yet, give one of the officers a call and we will come by to pick it up.  It just doesn't get any easier than that.
Talking about kids... we have some young Brothers who are having a big impact on our Lodge.  Our two newest Brothers have hit the ground running and they are learning multiple parts in the degrees and giving lectures.  We old guys have been well impressed with their willingness to learn and the energy that they bring to our group.  We also have a few more young men who have made their intentions known to petition our Lodge, so our future is looking better all the time.
Have you ever had an old saying come to mind and it has a unique meaning to you?  My Mother has recited a wise poem to me numerous times as I was growing up and I "think" it to myself often, lest I forget how important it is to be good unto all and it goes like this, "I have to live with myself and so, I want to be someone I would like to know, instead of stand alone at the setting sun, and hate myself for the things I had done."  We have no guarantee that we will wake up tomorrow... or even live out the rest of today for that matter.  Yet, we have the choice of how we use our time starting now...

Greetings from the Jr. Warden - Ted Hill

I managed to pass my Certified Lecturer’s re-examination last week. Hurray!! We have two new candidates in the works...so degree work coming up in Oct./Nov./Dec. Also lots of exciting activities.. Movie night (open to anyone) Ladies Night, Awards Night, and more stuff on the planning table. Don’t miss out on the great fun and fellowship. Your Lodge does a first class job and you’ll enjoy yourself…..promise.. We discussed Amendment Group 8, allowing Lodges to conduct business meeting on the first or second degree. There were many inputs offered, but they were all negative. We see no good reason for this change..

Greetings from the Secretary - Russ Elliott

Brothers, I am sending the arrears dues notices this coming week.  If your dues card has 2007 on it you will be getting one of these.  We have about sixty who have not come up with the seventy five dollars.  If you are having a problem call me at 704-344-0808 and we can make arrangements to continue your membership in our fraternity. We will be having two great social events in the near future so consult your trestle board for the dates, times and locations.  We have had about four to six trestle boards returned each month for various reasons the USPS could not deliver.  We have a new printer, DPI in Pineville so if you need printed matter, get in touch with them.
