Summary of the March Stated Communication

 

A Regular Stated Communication of Charles M. Setzer Lodge #693 AF&AM was held in the Lodge Hall March 17, 2008 A.D. 6008 A.L.
The Lodge was opened in due form on the Third Degree of Masonry with Officers and Members as shown on the register.


The Master announced that this is the monthly Stated Communication of Charles M. Setzer Lodge #693 for the purpose of transacting such business as shall come before it.

There was an alarm at the door. The Tyler announced that the District Deputy Grand Lecturer of the thirty second Masonic district of North Carolina wishes to enter. The marshal conducted the DDGL to the alter where the master welcomed him. The DDGL was then conducted to the east where the Master requested the members to join him in according the DDGL Private Grand honors. The Master presented the gavel to the DDGL who seated the lodge. He then took a seat with the members.

There was a second alarm at the door and the Tyler announced that the District Deputy Grand Master of the thirty second Masonic district of North Carolina wishes to enter. The marshal conducted the DDGM to the alter where the master welcomed him. The DDGM was conducted to the east where the Master requested the members to join him in according the DDGM Private Grand honors. The Master presented the gavel to the DDGM who seated the lodge. He differed his comments to later in the meeting.

The Master requested the Secretary to read the minutes of the last stated communication and all intervening communication along with any correspondence received. The minutes were read.

Correspondence received:
We received a letter from the DDGM informing us of the district picnic and requesting a donation of $100.00.
We received a letter from the Charlotte Scottish Rite Bodies informing us of their charity golf tournament to be held on May 24, 2008 at the Charlotte National Golf Course. They requested that we purchase a hole sign at the cost of $100.00 and form a team from the lodge to play in the tournament.
We received an invitation to open installation of Mizpah Chapter 36 Order of the Eastern Star on March 18th at 8:15PM at the Excelsior Masonic Lodge #261.
We received a newsletter from the Masonic and Eastern Star Home of NC entitled “MESH NEWS”.
We received trestle boards from Steele Creek, Newell and Temple lodges. Newell will be attending their School of Instruction on March 25th and 26th. Temple will be conferring a third degree on March 27th. 7:30pm. Steel Creek will have their car show and fish fry on May 10th. Their lodge dedication service will be in late April.

Treasurer’s Report: WB Ken Mullis reported all bills paid and reviewed the treasurer’s report.

Sick & Visitation
Past Master’s wife Kelly Cox was in CMC last week and is now home and doing well. She plans on moving to California in June to be with her Mother. The secretary sent some flowers in the name of the lodge.
Bro. Tom Setzer has had surgery and is in Carolina’s Medical Center

Budget & Finance
The 2008 Budget has lied over for thirty days and was accepted from the Budget and Finance Committee. A motion was made by WB Michael Davis, Second by Allen Mann Motion passed.
WB Michael Davis made a motion to send $100.00 to the DDGM for the upcoming district picnic. Second by Allen Mann, Motion Passed.
WB Michael Davis made a motion to send $100.00 to the Scottish Rite Golf Committee for a hole sign at the Roger Hart Memorial Golf outing. Second by Allen Mann, Motion Passed.
The Master gave a short report on the Lodge program for the ensuing year
“A Year of Equilibrium” Highlighting the last program on the Golden Ratio.
He also reported on our recent trip to the new Steele Creek Lodge. We had thirteen members and picked up the friendship gavel. He gave a short report on the history of the gavel which started in 1998.
The total attendance at the Steele Creek lodge was over 100.

Masonic Education
During the DDGM’s part of the meeting he introduced Bro. Edward Albert who delivered a paper on the importance of presenting our degrees in a dignified manor. The paper was well received.

Old Business
The Master thanked Bro. Fred Caudle for his activities during the planning, obtaining bids, obtaining a contract, verifying the quality of work during the roof replacement and completing the project in a timely manor with a substantial saving to the lodge. The brothers gave Bro. Fred a standing ovation.

WB Ted hill suggested that the Master contact the church which uses our lodge on Sundays by letter to inquire if they are satisfied with the way thing are going. He also volunteered to draft that letter.

The District Deputy Grand Master was then given the gavel and sat in the east. He asks the District Deputy Grand Lecturer to give his report. WG Clayton Wright reported on the School of Instruction to be held in April. He then requested our visitors to give us a short report on their lodges and how they might differ from ours.

Bro. Gidan Adams commended our lodge for the way we had conducted our meeting and stated that lodges in England were opening on each of the degrees in order to get the Entered Apprentices and Fellow craft members more involved.

WB David Blew told us of the degrees in his lodge and emphases a group of New Jersey State Police that conferred the third degree in a very excellent manor. He also thanked us for our hospitality.

WB Wright also said he always enjoyed coming to Setzer Lodge for the fellowship and décor in which we conducted ourselves. He also commended us on our degree work.

WB Jeff Hightower then reported on the district growth and that we were doing well. He also stated that he had reviewed our yearly books and found them to be in order and our lodge doing well.
He informed us that Matthews Lodge is having a third degree on April 12th.
He asks that all members come to the district picnic at the Matthews Stump Town Park.

WB Ted Hill asks the DDGM for information on the funeral phone tree. WB Hightower asks WB Ted to contact Bro. Jack English who controls the tree.

There was a discussion on Brothers in the Charlotte Metro area who could give the funeral service and the DDGL said he would come up with a list.
